Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a Driving Licence in Bangalore

Getting a driving licence in Bangalore involves a clear process that is straightforward once you know the steps. Many people find the RTO process confusing because the requirements and procedures are not widely explained in simple language. This guide walks you through the entire process from learner's licence to permanent licence, so you know exactly what to do at each stage.

Step 1: Apply for a Learner's Licence
The first step is obtaining a learner's licence (LL). You can apply online through the Parivahan Sewa portal (parivahan.gov.in) or visit your nearest RTO office. You will need proof of age (birth certificate, Aadhaar, or passport), proof of address, passport-size photographs, and a filled application form (Form 1 and Form 2). Pay the required fee and complete the online theory test at the RTO. The test covers basic traffic rules and road signs.

Step 2: Receive Your Learner's Licence
Once you pass the theory test, your learner's licence is issued. This is a temporary licence valid for 6 months that allows you to practise driving on roads, provided a licensed adult is seated beside you. Your learner's licence number is what you use when booking your driving school sessions.
